About Dr. Sean Dunkle & Family
Meet Dr. Sean
Currently living in Marion, Dr. Sean Dunkle is proud to call Iowa home (though his Canadian roots still show up whenever hockey is mentioned 🏒). Married to his wife Jolene since 2000, Dr. Sean is a chiropractor, husband, proud dad, fitness enthusiast, and forever hockey coach at heart.
Dr. Sean is a native of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, where he completed two years at Red Deer College and earned an award for being “outstanding” in math and science. He then moved to Davenport, Iowa, to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic — the birthplace of chiropractic and the most prestigious institution in the profession. There, he was awarded an International Academic Scholarship, worked in the radiology lab, and played club hockey. In 1999, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Doctorate of Chiropractic.
Along the way, he also met Jolene, who has been his partner in life since before graduation. Today, Jolene works as a Speech/Language Pathologist at Mercy hospital, a role she’s held since 2004.
Dr. Sean especially enjoys working with athletes and active individuals — from youth sports participants to weekend warriors and even professionals. Whether it’s recovery, injury prevention, or performance enhancement, his passion is helping people stay at their best both on and off the field (or ice).
And yes — every now and then you might hear a classic “eh!” slip into conversation. True to his Canadian upbringing, Dr. Sean is known for his politeness… he may even apologize once or twice during your appointment (even if it wasn’t his fault). 🇨🇦
Family Life — Then & Now
Dr. Sean and Jolene raised two amazing kids who are now chasing big dreams (plus one unforgettable pup):
Gabe is attending the University of Iowa Dental program. Dr. Sean likes to joke that he’s holding out for a lifetime supply of free dental care (and maybe a discount on whitening). When Gabe comes home on weekends, Sean looks forward to their workouts in the basement gym and their battles on the golf course. (Let’s just say… Sean is still waiting for that hole-in-one.)
Quinn is skating at the highest level, playing Division I Women’s Hockey at Union College in Schenectady, NY. While Dr. Sean catches some games in person, most of the time you’ll find him proudly streaming them on ESPN+. When Quinn comes home in the summer and winter, the Dunkle house suddenly feels louder, busier, and alive again — just the way Sean and Jolene like it.
The late, great Bauer Dunkle was the tiniest and mightiest member of the family — a 3.7 lb Maltese who lived to be 16 years old. Bauer passed in 2025 and is dearly missed every single day by Sean, Jolene, Gabe, and Quinn. Bauer wasn’t just a pet; he was one of the greatest decisions Sean and Jolene ever made, bringing endless joy, laughter, and love to the family.
Dr. Sean loved coaching both Gabe and Quinn in hockey over the years, but since they’ve grown up, the rink is a little quieter without him behind the bench. He often says: “Kids grow up so fast. Sometimes I wish I could shrink them back down to their mini-mite days and hit pause for just a little longer.”
Now with both kids away at school and Bauer no longer around, the Dunkle house can sometimes feel a bit too quiet… which is why those weekends when Gabe visits, or when Quinn is home from college, are extra special. The house goes from “peaceful” to lively chaos in seconds — and Sean wouldn’t have it any other way.
Staying Strong For Patients
When Dr. Sean’s not in the clinic or traveling to watch Quinn’s games, Dr. Sean can often be found in his basement gym, where he works out four times a week. Staying strong and fit isn’t just a hobby — it’s his way of making sure he can keep up with his patients. He jokes: “Some of you are easy to adjust… and some of you are basically CrossFit workouts in disguise. Gotta stay strong!” 💪
