Because kids aren’t immune to wonky spines, growing pains, or trampoline mishaps. We take care of little humans, too — gently and with care.

Chiropractic care for children can help with posture, alignment, sports injuries, and those everyday bumps and tumbles that come with being a kid. Our approach is always age-appropriate, safe, and gentle — whether it’s supporting healthy growth, easing discomfort, or just keeping kids moving and thriving. Parents love knowing their kids are in good hands (literally).

“Gentle care for little spines, big dreams, and everything in between.”

Dr. Sean Dunkle adjusting a patient at Care Chiropractic. We are a chiropractic office in Marion IA. We serve the Marion, Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and surrounding areas.

We’re Accepting New Patients!

At Care Chiropractic, we’re currently welcoming new patients (and their cranky backs) with open arms — and adjustable tables.

We accept most insurance plans, and yes, we’ll even handle the paperwork so you don’t have to decode your benefits like it’s a mystery novel.

No Insurance? No Problem.

Spinal health shouldn’t be a luxury item (and last we checked, it’s not sold at designer boutiques).

Whether you:
• Don’t have insurance
• Lost your benefits
• Or simply swore off insurance portals after the 37th password reset…

We’ve got flexible, budget-friendly payment options to keep things stress-free.
A lot of our patients just pay directly — because great chiropractic care shouldn’t require a second mortgage or selling your kidney on the internet.

“We’ll work with you, not against your wallet. Pinky promise.”

Why Pain Can Be Sneaky

Sometimes the place that hurts is the victim — not the villain. A stiff joint, irritated nerve, old injury, or compensation pattern can make another area complain loudly.

1 Restricted Motion

Joints that are not moving well can increase stress on nearby muscles and tissues. Your body adapts, then sends you a memo called pain.

2 Muscle Guarding

Tight muscles often show up to protect irritated areas. Helpful at first. Annoying when they overstay their welcome.

3 Nerve Irritation

Nerves dislike pressure, inflammation, and poor mechanics. When they are irritated, symptoms can travel, burn, tingle, or feel electric.

4 Compensation

When one area avoids work, another area picks up overtime. Unfortunately, your shoulder, hip, or knee did not agree to that contract.

5 Inflammation

Injured tissue can become sensitive, swollen, or reactive, especially after accidents, overuse, or poor movement patterns.

6 Deconditioning

When pain makes you move less, strength and mobility can fade. Then everyday tasks start feeling like Olympic events.

Condition Deep Dives

A cleaner, more helpful way to explain what people may be feeling, what we evaluate, and when chiropractic care may be a good fit.

Common symptoms: stiffness, trouble turning your head, upper trap tightness, headaches, shoulder blade pain, or pain after sleeping wrong.

What we evaluate: joint motion, posture, muscle tension, nerve signs, prior injuries, work habits, and whether X-rays are appropriate.

Care may include: chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, mobility exercises, posture coaching, and home-care guidance.

Common symptoms: dull ache, sharp catching pain, stiffness after sitting, pain bending forward, or pain with lifting.

What we evaluate: spinal joint motion, hip mobility, disc-related signs, muscle guarding, neurologic findings, and movement patterns.

Good news: many types of low back pain respond well to conservative, non-drug care. Also good news: we do not make you do interpretive dance to prove it hurts.

Common symptoms: pain traveling into the buttock or leg, numbness, tingling, burning, or “lightning bolt” sensations.

What we evaluate: nerve tension, low back mechanics, disc-related signs, hip/pelvic movement, reflexes, strength, and sensation.

Important: new loss of bowel or bladder control, worsening leg weakness, saddle numbness, or severe progressive neurologic symptoms should be evaluated urgently.

Common symptoms: tension headaches, pain starting in the neck, pressure behind the eyes, tightness at the base of the skull, or recurring headaches.

What we evaluate: neck joint motion, posture, muscle tension, jaw mechanics, prior whiplash, and whether your headache pattern needs medical referral.

Urgent warning: sudden “worst headache of your life,” headache with weakness, confusion, facial droop, fever, or vision changes needs immediate medical care.

Common symptoms: pain reaching overhead, throwing pain, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, wrist pain, grip weakness, or numbness/tingling into the hand.

What we evaluate: neck contribution, shoulder blade mechanics, rotator cuff stress, elbow/wrist motion, nerve irritation, and repetitive-use patterns.

Common symptoms: hip tightness, knee pain with stairs, runner’s knee, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, heel pain, or foot pain with walking.

What we evaluate: foot and ankle mechanics, knee tracking, hip mobility, pelvis/low back contribution, gait, footwear, and sport/work demands.

Common symptoms: whiplash, back strain, headaches after impact, joint pain, muscle spasm, stiffness, or pain that shows up a day or two later.

What we evaluate: injury mechanism, range of motion, orthopedic and neurologic signs, whether imaging is needed, and a return-to-life plan that does not rely on “just wait and hope.”

Pregnancy: changing posture, rib discomfort, low back pain, pelvic stress, hip pain, and sleep-position battles can all make movement harder.

Kids: sports, growth, posture, backpacks, tumbles, and general kid chaos can create movement problems. Care is always gentle, age-appropriate, and tailored to the child.

What Happens When You Come In?

No guessing. No scare tactics. No mysterious back-room wizardry. Just a clear process built around understanding what is going on and helping you move better.

1 Listen First

We start with your story: what hurts, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and what you want to get back to doing.

2 Examine Movement

We check motion, posture, orthopedic findings, neurologic signs, and the areas that may be driving the problem.

3 Use X-rays When Needed

Not everyone needs X-rays. When they are appropriate, having them on-site helps us make better decisions without sending you all over town.

4 Build Your Plan

You get a personalized plan that may include adjustments, therapies, rehab guidance, home care, and common-sense next steps.

5 Track Progress

We care about results: less pain, better movement, more function, and fewer “I moved wrong and now I regret everything” moments.

When Chiropractic May Not Be The First Stop

Trust matters. If your symptoms suggest something outside our lane, we will tell you. We are chiropractors, not magicians — although adjustable tables do feel slightly futuristic.

⚠️ Seek urgent care for

Chest pain, stroke-like symptoms, severe shortness of breath, major trauma, sudden weakness, loss of bowel/bladder control, or a sudden severe headache.

📝 Tell us about

Cancer history, osteoporosis, blood thinners, recent surgery, infection symptoms, pregnancy complications, or any major medical changes.

🤝 We coordinate when needed

If another provider, imaging, or medical referral is the smarter path, we will point you in that direction. Good care means knowing when to adjust — and when not to.

Everyday Things That Should Not Feel Like A Competitive Sport

Chiropractic care is ultimately about function. Pain relief matters, but the bigger win is helping your body handle real life better.

âś“ Sleeping without negotiating with your pillow

âś“ Driving without rotating like a confused robot

âś“ Golfing, lifting, running, and walking comfortably

âś“ Picking up kids, groceries, and laundry baskets

âś“ Working at a desk without becoming desk-shaped

âś“ Getting out of bed without a motivational speech

âś“ Looking over your shoulder while backing up

âś“ Doing nothing and somehow not hurting from it

More Helpful Questions Patients Ask

The internet has symptoms. We have actual answers.

Many people seek chiropractic care for low back pain. Research and clinical guidelines include spinal manipulation as one non-drug option for acute and chronic low back pain. Your results depend on the cause, severity, health history, and care plan.

Chiropractic care may help some types of neck pain, especially when joint restriction, muscle tension, posture, or movement problems are contributing factors.

Some headaches can be influenced by the neck, upper back, posture, and muscle tension. We evaluate whether your headache pattern appears musculoskeletal or whether medical referral is needed.

Sometimes. Sciatica-like symptoms can come from several sources, including the low back, pelvis, hip, and irritated nerves. We evaluate the likely source and recommend care or referral based on your findings.

Yes. We evaluate shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, feet, and the way those areas interact with the spine. The body did not come with separate apps for each joint.

Not always. X-rays are recommended when your history, exam, injury, age, or symptoms suggest they may change the plan or help rule out concerns.

We combine careful evaluation, multiple treatment options, on-site X-rays when needed, a practical care plan, and a team that tries very hard to make healthcare feel less like a DMV visit.
